Alexander,

Thanks for the update on the Washington DC engine. Wes Barris noted that it was gone, but we did not know it was scrapped.

I am a member of the Park Trains mailing list; I need to ask there about Knoebels Grove #99 as well.

No. The engine in Wakarusa is #98. It was only in Knoxville for a few years after running at the World's Fair. The owner that died was Delton Schrock.

Just goes to show that we REALLY need an updated edition of J. David's "bible". How 'bout it, Dave? A project for all that extra free time?

I'm pretty sure this locomtoive is still there, I saw it there last summer. it is in pretty rough shape. It sits over by the anthracite display.

Hello

Was just at Knobels Grove in mid September. The 99 was moved from its long time perch near the entrance over to an "Anthracite" museum area within the park. Its still in just about the worst shape an engine can be. No saddle tank, cab coming detached from the frame, and of course it does have replica "cow catcher" on the front.

It is on display with other equipment including a sub surface miner "transport" vehicle and other equipment.

The crown 4-4-0 from the early sixties continues to run as does the group of immaculate gas powered Allan Herschelle/Miniature Train Co equipment.

No. Ex-CN 7260 still survives. I can't tell you about #17.

By any chance, would that locomotive be related to Strasburg Railroad's 31, ex Candian National 7310?

I'll second that, although the last time I was at Knoebel's was about a year and a half ago. It has sat out in front of the anthracite museum for about as long as I can remember. Anybody know where this locomotive originally worked?

No it is not 7260 built by CLC 1906 for CGR

7312 (not 7310) built by Baldwin 1908 for GTR

different specs.

I didn't see the 0-6-0 when I was in Glace Bay, but I do know for a fact that the other locomotive, #17, was cut up after being designated as "an eyesore". The Miner's Museum sits right on the Atlantic shore, and the locomotive had deteriorated terribly in the salt air. Despite attempts to repaint itand make it presentable, locals continuously complained about it. Instead of moving it to another location, and there are several railway museums that wanted it in the immediate region, the first choice was also the simplest and the engine was destroyed.

Anybody know where this locomotive
originally worked?

It originally worked at Lehigh Valley Coal.

Yes, I realize this from the previous threads posted. But where was Lehigh Valley Coal located? (And don't say in the Lehigh Valley, Brandon!!)

Post subject: Not in the Lehigh Valley
PostPosted: Mon Nov 12, 2001 2:14 pm

No worries. It is a common error, but coal was never mined in the Lehigh Valley, it being to the east of the antracite fields (not by much).

Lehigh Valley coal had operations in the middle and upper anthracite fileds, most noteably in the Hazelton, PA area.

 Post subject: Two More...
PostPosted: Mon Nov 12, 2001 3:29 pm

Thank you very much to all who have responded to date.

This two were not listed in the Directory, but on Wes Barris' list, and on another list I recieved (and am currently working on.)

First is a narrow gauge 0-4-0T at Norton Abrasives, Athol, MA. It is agreed that it is gone, but no-one knows where it went. Does anyone know? Was it scrapped?

Another is a 0-4-0T, ex Cheshire RR, that used to be at B&M Shops & Museum, Keene, NH. Also, who built it, when, and construction number.

This update should bring up to date nearly all of the entries in the Steam Directory, plus add a few more.

The 0-4-0T at Keene was 30-inch gauge, originally Raritan Copper Works 11, later Anaconda 11, at Perth Amboy, NJ. Sold to Edaville in 1950s. Was displayed briefly (late 1980s) at the former Cheshire roundhouse and shops at Keene, NH after that site became a shopping outlet. Saw it recently on some website, apparently it is now back at Edaville. Saddletank was removed when sent to Keene. Porter 6976, built 5/1925.
