We are looking for a source for the round green/white lighting fixtures that would hang from depot and tower ceilings and focus light on the operator's desk, clocks, interlocking machines, etc.

Does anybody know where to find these today?

I think that a lighting company named Benjamin used to make these green and white porcelain reflectors. When I did lighting design in the 80s, they still sold those fixtures. The fixtures, or something similar, must still be in production, because several restaurant chains, including Uno's Chicago Pizzeria (no financial interest in them), use a similar fixture to create an old-time industrial lighting style.

Visit a local lighting showroom associated with an electrical distributor; they tend to have a greater selection of fixture vendor catalogs.

Failing that, contact a friendly local architect or interior designer.

Take a look at page 661 of the online McMaster-Carr catalog. I see something that might be similar. I have a pallet of used ones, but would have to see if they are surplus to our needs. Contact me off line if you want me to check into it.

I believe we purchased lights similar to what you mention in either a Home Depot or Lowes. These had brass-style adjustable extensions that extended from the ceiling into green colored glass globes. They looked very nice in our ticket booth, especially from outside.

However, please see to purchasing extra green shades, because if one doesn't "push" himself away from the desk or counter, they will promptly strike the globe as they get out of the chair, henceforth breaking it!

Nope. The type we are looking for are all metal. No glass except the bulb.

We have them in the museum/visitor center at SRI... I will ask tomorrow where they came from (unless someone else from SRI chimes in first).


They look like they were purchased new, but I am not for sure.


They have green on the top side, and the bottom 'reflector' side is white.

Maybe Baselite Corp. has them - here's a spec sheet URL:

Nowever, these may be painted metal rather than porcelain enamel.

If you need just the reflector, I have a period "new old stock" one -- the green exterior with white interior. You would still need the fixture (which is pretty basic itself.
