Friday, Aug. 25 is known in the National Park Service as Founder's Day, since that date in 1916 is when the Organic Act, creating the NPS was signed into law by President Woodrow Wilson.

To commemorate the 90th anniversary, the National Parks plan to unveil the updated Web sites for all 390 parks on that day. While bugs are still being worked out, three parks with a railroad connection will be part of this update.

They are Golden Spike in Utah, and Allegheny Portage Railroad and Steamtown in Pennsylvania. These new sites should be easier to navigate, without too much content on one page. What I like is that several more photographs will be on the Steamtown site that haven't been seen before.

I took a quick look at the Allegheny Portage site today, and it looks a lot better than what I had seen before.

Web addresses are www.nps.gov/alpo for Allegheny Portage NHS,
www.nps.gov/gosp for Golden Spike NHS and
www.nps.gov/stea for Steamtown. I hope you like the changes.

Tim,

Great news! I've always felt the current website design didn't quite do justice to what Steamtown has to offer.

I'll be eager to see what comes up. Who can we send feedback to?

The updates don't hit 'till next Friday, the 25th. Then the new stuff is destined to show.

And don't forget to have a look at the San francisco Maritime National Historical Park.

There is a lot to see there!

Well, it is almost a week since the debut. On day one, I encountered some undisplayed portionson the various pages, but that may have been visitor over load. All the park's I've checked seem fine. The NPS is now entering the 21st century.

Can anyone post the link to the Steamtown locomotive list with mechanical condition analysis? I think it was a pdf.
