It's great to see what shape she's in. They are such magnificent locomotives. The last Berk delivered to the NKP.

NKP 779 is also the last steam locomotive ever built by the Lima Locomotive Works.

At one time I thought, "Why don't they get her out and run her?", but in retrospect, my thinking has changed to, "Isn't it great that a static locomotive is kept this well preserved until a century or two from now, when her other sisters are used up and a functional example is called for?"
These people deserve a serious "hats off". Perhaps their experiences in preserving 779 would make an interesting document for the rest of us to read?

Richard, that's an interesting outlook....at first I'm sure it seems ridiculous to think that a steam locomotive from the 1940's would be operational in a hundred years, but look at the John Bull preserved at the Smithsonion. If I remember correctly, didn't they fire it up and run it for it's 150th birthday?
