*** "Surviving World Steam Locomotives" has been updated for November 2001

The "Surviving World Steam Locomotives" database has been updated for the month of November, 2001. It now contains 18,000 steam locomotives; up 150 since the last update in May, 2000 and 85% of the total worldwide.

The database is now thought to be as complete as possible for North America, UK, much of Europe, and Japan. The engines listed in previous publications are included, as well as engines recently imported, amusement park engines, homebuilt engines, and replicas. Builders data is also complete for roughly 12,000 of the engines in the database.

The number of pictures in the database is now up to 600, and includes representative examples of builders and classes the world over. Examples of most surviving classes in North America and the UK are also now included, thanks to the latest pictures from Geoff Coward, Sean Cullen, and David Longman.

Those who have already purchased a copy can order an update. The update includes 200 pictures, many of which do not ship with the program. Updates include an "Update Wizard", which transfers pictures and sound clip links to the update from your current copy before overwriting it. Thus, you needn't worry about losing your picture collection with each update.

Both the program and updates can be ordered from the order page at http://www.pernet.net/~james1/us_steam/ordering.htm. You can still order online using Paypal from several countries around the world.

*** "Surviving World Steam Vehicles" now available ***

"Surviving World Steam Vehicles" is the second CD-ROM in the "Surviving World Steam" series. It is now available at http://www.pernet.net/~james1/steam_tr. It includes

· Traction Engines (Steam Tractors)
· Steam Rollers
· Steam Cars
· Steam Wagons (Trucks)
· Steam Fire Pumpers
· Portable Steam Engines and Boilers
· Steam Shovels, Dredges and Draglines (not mounted on barges or rails) · Steam Bicycles, Loggers, and other rare vehicles.

It now includes 9500 vehicles from 49 countries, and 128 photographs. No one knows how many steam vehicles remain; my best guess is that this represents 85% of the total worldwide.

"Surviving World Steam Vehicles" sells for U$32.95. You can order it using a check, money order, or credit card via Paypal using the order page at http://www.pernet.net/~james1/steam_tr/ordering.htm

*** Price reduced on "Surviving World Steam Locomotives" ***

The price of "Surviving World Steam Locomotives" has been reduced to U$32.95. This is a bargain, considering this amount of information and photographs is not available anywhere at any price, in such an easy-to-use format. You can order your copy at http://www.pernet.net/~james1/us_steam/ordering.htm.

*** New Project: "Surviving World Steamships" ***

"Surviving World Steamships" will be the third CD-ROM in the "Surviving World Steam" series. It will include:

· Vessels propelled by a steam engine and boiler · Vessels propelled by a steam turbine and boiler
· Vessels propelled by a steam turbine and nuclear reactor

The vessels included in the database include working, preserved, and stored examples. Steamboats and steamships which are grounded or derelict in shallow water will be included as well. Vessels which are sunk in deep water will not be included; only those that are visible without diving.

A webpage showing a preliminary screenshot and project status is now available at http://www.pernet.net/~james1/steamship.

In closing, I wish to once again extend a warm "thank you" to everyone who has supported "Surviving World Steam", either through sending photographs or data, or by purchasing a CD-ROM. Without the input of dozens of users and references worldwide, neither "Surviving World Steam Locomotives" nor "Surviving World Steam Vehicles" would have been possible. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
