As a boy I would go with my partents to the Huntington, Indiana area to visit family. My one grandmother lived about 2 blocks from the Wabash and 4 blocks from the Erie. I would walk to the Erie depot and watch the Alco switchers at work as well as watch the freights and passenger trains. I am seriously considering to commision a painting of my boyhood memories done by artist Robert West. I have located a handful of photos of the station on the net but nothing that meets my needs. I want a good shot of the west end of the station, also the north side (next to the tracks). Also I need a shot of the interlocking tower and any buildings between the tower and depot. (Was the tower operated by the Wabash?) Does anyone know of any online resourses that could help me here? Thanks in advance!

Some photos of operations in Huntington are included in the Phil Hastings Collection at the California State Railroad Museum.

Some time ago I took advantage of a business trip to visit the Museum and go through the Hastings collection. That turned out to be a gold mine for us, as Phil had shot several rolls of 120 film during a round trip on the Erie Lackawanna's "Lake Cities" between Chicago and Meadville PA (lo, and behold, our Diner EL 741 was the diner in the consist he rode on both east- and westbound trips!) in November 1969. Among the collection were easily 4-6 images of the dining car being added/removed at Huntington.

Unfortunately, the cataloging of the slides is not specific enough to give you a callout other than they're in the "Erie Lackawanna" negatives section of the Hastings collection....

Happy Hunting,
