Correspondent told me of a new (to me, at least) RR museum in northwestern Indiana, only a short distance from the Monticello Ry. Museum:

Someone's private collection run amok? More from my source:

"It's located just outside the town of Monon, which was the place where
the rr of the same name had a major crossing. The museum features Monon materials but that is just the beginning. The individual who built and
maintains this museum started off as a Monon fan but his interests
branched out. Today this museum houses a quite extraordinary collection
of railroad materials, including a number of PRR classics. Perhaps the
most remarkable is the complete wooden passenger station from Cove, PA, just west of Enola on the Middle Division. But there are numerous
station and tower signs (for example, the A tower sign from Broad Street
station's throat, and the MONON tower sign from the interlocking plant
that controlled the Panhandle's approach into the PRR's Pittsburgh
station. There are at least 6-8 PRR steam loco bells and headlights.
There are a number of PRR drumhead signs, including some of the great
name trains of the 20th century. The walls of the adjoining restaurant
display a COMPLETE set of PRR calendars with intact tear sheets, all in
excellent condition. The room with railroad china and lanterns is just
as amazing. I could go on - there are some rare TH&I (Vandalia Road)
items, including two loco headlights and bells. One of the headlights
is an oil light from the 19th century.

There is so much to see that you can't take it all in in one visit.
I've been twice and still haven't absorbed it all. Most amazing, this
whole affair is entirely private, the result of one man's collecting and
then investing a considerable sum to beautifully display his collection
for the public. And not only that - he has endowed the museum so that
when he passes from the scene, there will be means to maintain the
museum. The one thing this museum does not have a lot of is rolling
stock and motive power, although the pieces they do have are great."

Slight miscalculation in the towns and distances.

The new museum is in Monon, Indiana which is about 15 miles from Monticello, Indiana.

The Monticello Railway Museum is in Monticello, Illinois, about 135 miles
to the west.
