Looking over the EBT and historic fabric threads below, I am reminded that apart from documentary inages I pretty much don't shoot up a lot of film anymore since I discovered I was missing a lot of firsthand experience when filtered through a viewfinder.

I have hundreds of photos I can't remember taking. I can't remember why I took them, or how I felt when taking them.

OTOH, I have very good memories of steam railroading experiences at places where I either had no camera or took some pictures and then put the camera away. Firing a wood burning Climax and riding a mainline passenger engine into Sydney Central at night in particular, a Nathan 5 chime on a 2 foot gage 2-4-2 in Wales also.......the smell and feel of a couple quarry hogs turning into solid blocks of rust in rural PA, the damp chill at the bottom of the pits, etc.

Is there a market for a cameraless experience-oriented fantrip?

Dave,

The first time I went to volunteer work at the TSRR, I brought no camera or camcorder and the next several days back home I was mad at myself for not bringing anything to record the events.
So after that I always bring a camera and camcorder, sometimes they dont get used , but they are with me.

One time I had it but didnt turn them on was during a climb up the highest hill on the line with the smallest engine (#201) and a full train.
We almost stalled. We slowed to about 5mph and the stack was like shotgun blasts...man I wish I had recorded that. That Little engine was really working hard!
