I know there has been some bad news coming out of Rusk, TX for a while, and it seems to be getting worse. According to their website, budget cutbacks have dramatically scaled back their staff and operations. They have a link to an online petition to increase state park funding (Texas State RR is a state park). Why not go to www.texasstaterailroad.com and sign it? It will literally take only a minute of your time, and its an easy way to help the cause of railway preservation. Thanks for your time.

Thank you for this update, and for helping us beat the drums for the TSRR petition effort. Thanks also to everybody who has been good enough to help out so far, and to the folks who see this and decide to pitch in.

In case anybody missed it, RyPN recently ran an article on the TSRR, which can be accessed by going to the archives button at the top of this page. This makes our case as well as I know how to do it, so thanks are likewise due to RyPN for publicizing our cause.

Because, much as I might support the cause, online petitions are utterly worthless for anything except making the signer feel as if he has accomplished something, when in fact he hasn't:

PLEASE, could we not go through this again ?? We would really appreciate it if you did not try to discourage people from supporting the TSRR petition effort. I am really trying to restrain myself from commenting any further on this or making any suggestions to you which would escalate into a disagreement. PLEASE just leave our petition effort alone. The TSRR has a hard enough time ahead as it is without their "supporters" working against them.

As a citizen of Texas, I am at a loss to understand why with the state's surplus, we are defunding our parks system. With the election tomorrow, we will be lossing one of the "big sticks" to try and effect a change.

There is a talk show personality I sometimes listen to on my way in to work, Mark Davis of WBAP. With the elections about to be behind us, I think it is time for an e-mail to ask for him to bring up the situation in a future talk show segment.

P.S. I already signed the petition.

That's even better --- Sign the petition like the good folks in Rusk are asking us to do, AND find other creative ways to help out in addition to that. Thank you, and Thanks again !!!!

I will tell you why, James. Because our executive branch seems more intersted in self preservation and personal enrichment than any other in our state's long history.

There is no interest in history, or in any form of transportation than something that goes over asphalt, and our govornor wants to happily take away land from Texas landowners to provide a toll road for Mexicans to get to Oklahoma, which will be run for the profit of Spaniards.

As to the TransTexas Corridor's promise of future rail service, if you believe that I have some ocean front property near Amarillo I 'll sell you.
