Wjen I went through there about a dozen years ago, it looked like most of these buildings were standing and in use.

They were still there about a month ago. I take it this was the source of all the castings marked "ATSF Atcheson" I have seen over the years? Thanks for posting it.

This company is currently known as Atchison Castings and is still in business. As far as I know, they may be the only other U.S. company (besides Columbus Castings - the former Buckeye Steel Castings Corp. in Columbus, Ohio) that is still equipped to produce large castings such as RR car trucks.

Atchison, or at least the company currently doing business as Atchison, did the truck frame casting for the latest round of Metra diesels, Metra Sumitomo gallery cars, and the VRE Sumitomo gallery cars currently under production.

When I was a member of ASTA,we contacted them about furninshing drawings for a new cylinder saddle,since they had made the previous one. Unfortunatly,many of their steam drawings were destroyed on a flood some years ago. They still might have more but if anyone is in need,contact them.
