Saw this on the RRs of York discussion group:

"A group of volunteers is making sure that people who use the Bike & Hike Trail from Cockeysville to Pennsylvania remember they are on an old railroad bed. The volunteers received a grant from REI of Timonium and held a raffle to raise money to restore electric traffic control signals that were first used by the Northern Central Railroad in the 1930s. ... This is the section that was torn up, south of the intact portion.

Let's see if I can translate that article from "unknowledgeable reporter" to "knowledgeable railroad termanology"

I would assume the "discs with white lights" would be position light signals?

Either way...that is actually a nice idea to fix some of them up to cycle through the aspects. Kudos to whoever came up with the idea!

There is at least one original signal preserved on a section of the Illinois Terminal east of Peoria, near the top of Caldwell Hill. (Now a bike trail) I do not believe it is illuminated, but the idea has been done before.
