A movie company is looking to "rent" a Pullman sleeper interior and a dining car congifuration as well. They are trying to present the year 1925. Anyone know of semi-complete sets in good repair which could be shipped to South Carolina?

ps: This is not a joke.

Steve,

I suggest you contact Stan Garner (www.stangarner.com). Stan is an active AAPRCO member and private car owner with lots of experience arranging train consists for movie work.

He should at least be able to find the movie company a real Pullman and diner to use as a set...although if they are looking for an interior only set per se (something that would go inside a studio), that might be a more difficult order.

Good luck,
Wolf

You might direct your inquiry to the L&C Railway in SC, attenton of Bob Willetts, VP of private varnish. He is aware of pretty much everything available in the region, and much of what isn't in the region, and is accustomed to arranging interchange and transport with CSX and NS.

Yes, and a separate interior boxed UPS and shipped is really not realistic. Part of the effect is the walls, paneling, furnishings, lights, trim, etc. Several Museums including IRM have what might fit the bill, and shooting interiors of the cars in situ is more realistic. The windows can be blue screened and any background grafted in later.

When they see the cost of moving a car or cars, and or the cost of stripping a car and reassembling, they should be willing to consider location shooting where the cars are. These are not screwdriver kits, and much of the woodwork, partitions, carpeting, etc would be damaged or destroyed trying to take it all apart.

I do know of a 1890s wooden heavyweight office car which has the old upper / lower section and a dining room, stripped for restoration already, that might work - unless it is too old in style. It is in Alabama, shooting would have to be done there as it is far too fragile to ship.

Movie companies always want to shoot their films where they get the best deal on taxes and/or other incentives. I remember when I was ARM Secretary and received a call asking where locomotives could be found to portray the Golden Spike event. I said there are replicas out in Utah on the original site. The reply was: "Oh, we need to shoot this in Pennsylvania."

Other stories available.
