A little side personal research discovered this nugget.

ATSF's only surviving NW2 from the Class of '39 - rebuilt to SSB1200 specifications about 1973 (ex-ATSF 1215, ATSF 2416 as an NW2) -- was sold to Amtrak and became their #550. Amtrak sold it in 2002, and yup, it's ended up in Larrys Truck & Electric, mis-identified, but possibly still in one piece, photo'd here in August 2006:

History I found indicates original EMC builders number is 927 and original ATSF number is 2365, built September 1939.

Anyway, if you're looking for a semi-practical and legitimately historic 'operating' diesel for your railroad museum, that's an odd pedigree I stumbled on. Pretty much like the guy that's had the same axe for 68 years, changed the head twice and the handle four times, but hey, its still the same axe!

It may already be razor blades or Green Goat fodder, but 68 years, hey... it probably deserves better than that.

Any idea how much they'd want for it?

Railpower's Green Goat program has made anything with a usable frame on it a lot more valuable, even if the rest of the unit is junk. But I can't find any indication that Railpower is using anything much shorter than a GP-series frame for the GG switcher program. Historically, SW-series EMD's have been more valuable than GP's. Hey, its worth a call. If its been in the yard for four years ...
