I'm looking for two whistles...one is a SP "Desert Chime" whistle and the other I can only recognize when I hear it. It was rumored to be from an Illinois Central Mikado, but the only one I have ever heard on an IC Mike was a steamboat whistle. I know this is pretty vaugue, but I would love to locate recordings of each. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

No offense, Txhighballer, but your second request is almost exactly like my saying "I'm looking for a steam locomotive--I'll know it when I see it, it had a boiler and wheels underneath connected by rods, and I think it was painted black with some numbers on the side of the cab..........."

I have an enormous recording collection, and I'm of no use to your requests. There's a slim chance the steam whistle collecting fraternity might be of use, but they often categorize their collections by manufacturer rather than where it was used. There are at least two steam whistle Yahoo groups, and one of them has a big collection of sound files at their group page.

I have a nagging feeling that you're going to hear a file, say "That's it!!!", and then learn it was a whistle found on a sawmill.........

As for the IC whistles friend of mine just picked up two a 6 chime and a long bell hooter whistle. Should have some good sounds of them here shortly. We have two whistle blows coming up and i'll be sure to get them on the site afterwards.
