Suction? I thought the fuel was gravity fed.

Yes it mostly is but any suction and vacuum helps to keep an even distribution through the fuel gap.

Also the nearer 90 degree angle the fuel meets the stea the more risk there is of the steam blowing down the fuel gap and not letting the fuel out

Very interesting, Matt - almost like a paint spray gun.

Might you have a drawing for the standard US marine burner such as one would find on the O'Brien?
