I have been given the task of re-assembling a Fairmont A-5 car that a former member started restoration on and then left the organization 5 years or so ago. I have gotten the Waukesha FC engine to fire and run briefly after much part swapping and trial and error.

What I would really like is to track down a manual or a parts breakdown as some components are a mystery and a few are missing as things have been scattered over the years. A big sticking point right now is the throttle linkage seems to be MIA.

We have a large supply of parts from other donor units over the years but no complete cars to reference.

If someone has a manual they could scan or copy it would be a great help.

Thanks

I have an A-5 manual. Do you know the age of the car or the series it was? A-5-B or A-5-C, etc.

Some also had a group # A-5-C-1.

If I have a duplicate (which is probable) I can sell it to you, if not, I'll copy the original in my archive.

I've got over 200 Fairmont manuals in my archive......

To be totally honest I have no idea what it is other then A-5. I do know that it is a longer wheelbase then the other frames we have. It also has the same windshield/ front wall configuration front and back but this may have been a modification done later in life. If it helps it has a wakesha FC, borg warner t-9? 4 sp tranny without reverse. The rear end has reverse and forward gears.

I don't know how close it would be, but we have an A4 with the 4cyl Wakeshaw engine that I will be parting out soon. It is 99% complete and may have parts you need. Or you could come over and take photos and measurements if needed. Let me know.

I actually found the ID plate this weekend in a box of spare parts(junk) the car is an a-5c.

I have been able to start the engine finally and it actually sounds good for not being tuned yet. The gas keeps overflowing out the inlet of the carb guess I need a rebuild kit for the carb and a float adjustment.

Someone in the past converted the engine to a more modern GM alternator but really bodged up the brackets making the whole setup an absolute pain to deal with. It would be a simple task to make new brackets at work with a whole machine shop available but unfortunately that is 1 1/2 hours away. I'll manage I guess.

The muffler appears to be a tractor muffler from TSC and is loud as hell, does anyone have a recommendation for a modern automotive type that would be easier on the ears and neighbors?

If it's 99% complete, why part it out instead of restoring it?

You might find some help here: http://www.fairmont.txrrhistory.com/MCC ... CCAID.html

The Martin County Historical Society has all of the Fairmont records. If you know the builder's number of your car they can provide a copy of its birth cirtificate. See here: http://fairmont.org/mchs/rwmotors.htm

Even though it is complete, it has a bent frame and major engine damage. I have a slightly newer A4 that some of the parts will go towards to make it useable again. Sometimes we have to pick our battles.

So are the wheels avaible? Where are you located?

The frame and wheels will be re purposed as a push cart with rails on the deck for our tie inserter (idea from fairmontdave). If you need wheels, I know we have some extras. I can see what might be available.

Well I ran it across the parking lot Sunday. Needs some adjustment and lots of little things like wiring that does not involve holding a cable to the positive terminal of a battery to start it.

What type of air filter did these use? I can't seem to find any in our junk/spare piles.
