Anybody have any idea of possible routing through Ohio? I'm guessing it has to come this way.

I have not a clue, but I would love to see somebody get a photo of it passing through Conneaut! That would be a very nice gesture for all the work that Doyle McCormack has put into her over the years. Conneaut was his home town and where he saw the NKP as a kid.

How it gets there will depend on routing and if any part of the route was specified. It’s gonna go from terminal to terminal until it hits the one that has a local or a string of locals to its destination. Sometimes it makes no logical sense. One of our members shipped a car in from the PNW with the BNSF interchange to NS specified as KC. It went from there to Madison, IL, up through Cleveland, down the old C&P to Conway, PA. Then backtracked east on the Ft. Wayne line to Canton, OH, then to Orrville.

Matt's coach took a very similar route to what the PA is planned - BNSF (lengthy delays in Wyoming and Nebraska) to NS at Kansas City, MO. It missed Madison, IL, but went straight across to Decatur, IL from KCMO, and then on to Conway, PA - through Bellevue and Alliance, OH. The move to Orrville wasn't much of a backtrack, but NS can't access that part of the PRR from the west (Thanks CF&E).

Locomotives seem to move much more rapidly than coaches because they are on the head end, and power seems to stay on trains longer these days.

The engine left Pasco at 2:31 on Wednesday 4/26 and is on it’s way to Kansas City via Sandpoint ID and Missoula MT. Lead unit is ironically one of the few remaining GE’s wearing BNSF warbonnet livery, chosen to honor the history of the Santa Fe. The PA was delivered to the AT&SF in a similar scheme many years ago.

One of the more rewarding aspects, at least to me, is how the PA is moving at speed, tracking beautifully. It would appear that all is right in the ALCO PA world at this time.

So it looks like it is taking the ex-AT&SF to Chicago, and a hotshot at that.

I get the feeling that pairing her with a warbonnet for this move was intentional.

Probably not wrong about the choice of lead power, but my guess is that doing so was not an order from "on-high". It probably was done by a local supervisor who is also a fan. I've seen it done other places. When I was at CSX in Baltimore, one of the Terminal Train Masters liked to put together consists with consecutively numbered units when they were in town at the same time.

I think Mr. Woodring is right. After UP acquired SP, you'd see SP-painted power leading consists for many years in east Arkansas. That was remarkably notable during the time 3985 went north through Poplar Bluff in 2004.

The last four EL F units were maintained, and dispatched, as an ABBA set, and delightful it was to see them.

Similarly, I have a suspicion that UP 6076, the ex-CNW AC44W still in CNW paint, dodged the paint shop for almost thirty years due to employee intervention. Every couple years you would hear that it was going to be repainted, and then it'd pop up again still in the old paint.

Merely a set of completely unrelated, totally random coincidences.

It is sitting at Plano, IL, on the old CB&Q west of Aurora as of 1230pm CDT, on a HKCKBRC that is tied down awaiting a crew. It has been there since early this morning (Friday, May 5). Seeing how it was repatriated from Mexico, should it be celebrating Cinco de Mayo today?
